There are days when I’m super motivated, ready to get stuck into my to-do list for the day. Then there are days when I literally don’t want to do anything other than lay about, watch movies and eat sweets. For those blah days, I’ve made a list of a few things I do to stay on track stay motivated.
JUST DO IT
Just get on with it, whatever it is sometimes we have to stop procrastinating and give ourselves a kick up the bum and get on with the task otherwise it’s never getting done. Do it and get it out of the way. When I do this, I find myself fully focused and occasionally coming up with new ideas just because my brain is probably trying to make it fun!
TREAT YOURSELF
If you find you’ve managed to get a tonne of work done or finished that daunting task you’ve been putting off, treat yourself. It helps to have something to look forward to and enjoy after.
SET THE MOOD
Make sure there’s no distractions, your workspace is somewhere you can focus and concentrate on creating new and exciting things. If I’m having an off day I organise and tidy my work area so it’s ready for me to continue with what I’m working on.
TAKE A BREAK
I have a really bad habit of not taking breaks regularly. I try to use the Pomodoro technique but sometimes just forget but it is so important to take a break. It will help you feel refreshed, especially if you’re looking at a screen and keep you focused. A break can be making a quick cuppa, lunch, doing a chore or just stepping out of the room for 5.
TALK TO LIKE-MINDED PEOPLE
If you’re stuck in a rut, talk to other creatives, friends or family. Tell them why you’re feeling unmotivated, maybe they can get the creative juices flowing. After all, everyone does think differently so you never know how they might inspire you.
SHAKE UP YOUR ROUTINE
I’m a morning person, that’s when I work best, I feel too lazy in the evening when everyone is around. Try to find a time of day you work best and stick to that to get the most done. If you’re bored of your current routine, break it up by going for a walk, head to the gym or meet up with a friend.
What do you do to stay motivated?
