Hands up who’s a fan of The Great British Bake Off? Series 7 is set to start this Wednesday, 24th August, on BBC 1 at 8pm and for 10 weeks I’ll be craving cake at the same time and probably getting fat whilst drawing cakes!
ABOUT THE SHOW
The judges of the show are Mary Berry, a queen on the baking scene with nearly 60 years of cooking experience, and Paul Hollywood, one of the UK’s leading artisan bakers. The presenters, Mel Giedroyc and Sue Perkins, provide some humorous commentary throughout the show.
If you’re not familiar with the show, it’s a baking competition with 12 contestants undertaking 3 challenges each week:
Signature Bake – the bakers create something of their own using their baking knowledge and creativity to show off their skills and come up with a bake that will impress the judges.
Technical Challenge – using the exact recipe from Paul Hollywood or Mary Berry, the bakers must produce a finished product with the same ingredients and instruction. It’s amazing how different each bake is but it’s a test of the bakers knowledge and experience of baking.
Showstopper – for the final challenge the bakers must show off their talent and produce a final product that will amaze the judges in both appearance and taste!

THE CHALLENGE
For 10 weeks I am going to illustrate 1 bake from The Great British Bake Off show and I’d like you to join me. I think it would be amazing to see these bakes in each artist’s individual style. The challenge will go on for 10 weeks until the show finishes and it’s just for fun! There’s no pressure to take part each week or illustrate all the bakes from all the contestants either. The reason I am doing this is just for fun and it came about when I was having a conversation with The Taste Buds. And because I love food, especially cake, and I love watching The Great British Bake Off.
What you need to do to get involved:
– Illustrate 1 (or more) of the bakes from the show each week in your own style
– Tag your illustrated bake post with the hashtag #GBBOdrawalong.
– You can take part via Instagram or Twitter – don’t forget the hashtag!
– Follow the hashtag, engage with each other and meet new creatives
If you want to take part, just watch the show on Wednesday and get drawing! Just in case you don’t get a chance to watch it, or want to take part but aren’t really a fan of the show, you’ll be able to find the contestants’ bakes on the show’s social media pages: Facebook, Instagram and Twitter.
Every Tuesday evening, I will share with you a few of my personal favourites via Instagram, Twitter and Facebook profile and tag the artist. I can’t wait to get started and I hope you will join in!
